A nerd is just a hipster further along the spectrum

This notion of hipster as information filter/curator is a really great encapsulation of my own sort of nebulous and reactionary thoughts about this movement. My opinion was always, “keep the hipsters out of sight, but let them leave their food, coffee, and drinks for the rest of us.”

I found it amusing how so many people have to reflect as closely as possible the same identity. I can't say I'll miss the hipsters. While I've always been what some consider a "nerd", it seems like "nerd culture" was always the lowest common denominator. It's more like knowing facts about Star Wars and celebrating "Pi Day" and "May the Fourth", but not having/developing any technical or intellectual ability outside of that.

I notice a trend lately toward 80's nostalgia. I don't know where it's coming from, but since that's the era I grew up in I know they could do worse. It's nice hearing my music and hearing references to the movies I grew up with all over the place. I'm sure sooner or later they'll move on from it to something very annoying so I'll enjoy it while it lasts.
